OCC North Africa

Shoe box gifts were first delivered to North Africa in 2003. Since then, 231,569 children have received a gift. In the 2011-2012 season, more than 14,000 gifts will be delivered to children in the region.

It is encouraging to hear from church partners in North Africa as they faithfully minister to children and their families in spite of all the challenges and dangers they face.

Christian leaders continue to take a stand for Christ, realizing that the message of hope contained in each shoe box gift makes an eternal impact on a child’s life.

Spiritual Impact Stories

The Power of a Gift

From a Christian leader: “Distributing the Operation Christmas Child gift boxes was such a wonderful experience. We were able to give them to orphans, abandoned children, destitute children, and children of battered women.

The children were so joyful when they realized they were receiving a personal gift! They were even happier when they opened their gifts and counted each item one by one. So many children at the distribution had never received anything like this before.

I had the privilege of sharing the story of the Good Samaritan with the children. We talked about how everyone needs to help others even if they’re not from your close family. We also explained that unlike the development work they are used to, their gifts were from individual families who love them even though they’ve never met.

We were able to speak worth and value into the lives of children as they received their gifts. And in doing so, we made new relationships and deepened existing relationships with the administrators of the orphanage, teachers, and parents.

We are very grateful to Samaritan's Purse for giving us the chance to bless these destitute children who rarely receive personal love and attention. Thank you for such a privilege. We only wish the families who gave the gifts could have been here with us.”

The Cry Of Joy
An 8-year-old girl, Rahama, received a shoe box gift. All of the sudden she started crying. When she was asked why she was crying, she said “I have never received a gift in my life, but today I did. Jesus has made me happy and that is why I am crying."

Let us rejoice in the gifts of life and praise God for his provision.

"Shout to the LORD, all the earth; break out in praise and sing for joy!" Psalm 98:4
