Samaritan’s Purse recently deployed our DC-8 cargo jet loaded with 19 tons of medical kits, hygiene kits, blankets, and other critical items to assist those who have been evacuated from Afghanistan. The much-needed supplies are now being distributed in the region to those in great distress.

The plane also carried members of our disaster assistance response team (DART), including medical personnel, to provide additional capacity to medical facilities that are treating the sick and suffering. As soon as the DC-8 landed, our medical team was able to save two lives, including a baby through an emergency C-section. The 32-week-old child was resuscitated after the procedure by one of our doctors.

We have disaster response specialists working in five different locations where Afghanistan evacuees are temporarily staying.

In late August, the world was shocked by images of chaos at Kabul’s airport as many tens of thousands of desperate people, including American citizens, tried to escape the Taliban. These Islamic extremists are securing power throughout the country and are beginning to hurtle Afghanistan back into a dark and brutal state where Christians, anyone who associated with Americans, women, and others face severe persecution and death. Some of our brothers and sisters in Christ are running from place to place, trying to stay safe.

Samaritan’s Purse has been partnering with organizations on the ground to get men, women, and children out of this horrific situation. We have been able to sponsor flights that have brought hundreds to safety—one of our partners made three trips that brought out 700 people in one day! We have also supported the evacuation of 80 missionary families via land routes.

Please continue to pray for the people of Afghanistan and all those who have been evacuated, many with just the clothes on their backs. Please pray that rescue operations will continue and that more people will escape to safety. Pray for God’s leading as Samaritan’s Purse continues to help evacuees and assesses additional needs for ongoing work.

Helping Afghan Evacuees Samaritan’s Purse is partnering with U.S. churches to help Afghan evacuees make a new home in our country. Our Afghan Resettlement Program matches families in need with local church sponsors who welcome them into their communities. Churches help with cultural orientation, housing, transportation, English learning, and more. In addition, we continue to provide various forms of emergency relief to traumatized and vulnerable Afghans abroad.
