We are eager to welcome 10 U.S. military couples each week for 16 weeks to experience a time of relationship building, spiritual refreshment, and physical renewal. Couples are flown to our wilderness lodge in Alaska where they participate in marriage classes, enjoy daily devotions from God\u2019s Word, and are offered Christ-focused counseling with veteran military chaplains. They also have opportunities for physical refreshment by participating together in activities such as kayaking, hiking, fishing, and wildlife viewing.<\/p>\r\n\t\t\t<!-- Video Container -->\r\n\t\t\t<!-- <div class=\"video-container\">\r\n\t\t\t\t[video id=\"6145468489001\"]\r\n\t\t\t<\/div> -->\r\n\t\t\t<p>Over the years, we have welcomed more than 1,200 military couples to our Alaska camp. We praise God that 504 individuals have made commitments to follow Jesus Christ, more than 630 have been baptized, and nearly 600 couples have publicly rededicated their marriages to the Lord during their time in Alaska.<\/p>\r\n\r\n<h3 class=\"subhead\">\"Walking A New Path\"<\/h3>\r\n<p>The experience in Alaska is an opportunity for couples to challenge themselves and to do things together that they never thought possible.<\/p>\r\n\r\n<div class=\"image\">\r\n                \t<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/spweb-uploads.s3.theark.cloud\/2021\/05\/2150US-A10-086.jpg\">\r\n                \t<span class=\"caption\">Army Staff Sergeant Jeremy Breece and his wife, Roxann<\/span>\r\n            \t<\/div>\r\n\r\n<p>Just a few years ago, Army Staff Sergeant Jeremy Breece would never have attempted the four-mile round trip hike to beautiful Tanalian Falls. He was in a wheelchair after having both legs amputated above the knee due to an IED blast in Afghanistan.<\/p>\r\n\r\n<p>Although new technology eventually provided Jeremy with more effective prosthetics, he\u2019d never walked as far as he did on the hike in Alaska.<\/p>\r\n \r\n<p>\u201cBeing able to see him push his limits\u2014that was so rewarding,\u201d said Jeremy\u2019s wife, Roxann. \u201cThis whole week is nothing we expected. It\u2019s been beyond what we imagined.\u201d<\/p>\r\n\r\n\t\t\t<!--<p>Working today as a bi-vocational pastor, former Army Specialist Brad Martinez is pulled in many directions. That\u2019s part of the reason why he and his wife Jesy were so grateful for a week of marriage enrichment in Alaska this July through Operation Heal Our Patriots.<\/p> \r\n\r\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s the first time she\u2019s had me to herself for a long time,\u201d Brad said. \u201cShe shares me with the church, the kids, work, everybody.\u201d<\/p> \r\n\r\n<div class=\"image\">\r\n                \t<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/spweb-uploads.s3.theark.cloud\/2020\/07\/2060US-A4-017.jpg\">\r\n                \t<span class=\"caption\">Army Specialist Brad Martinez and his wife Jesy<\/span>\r\n            \t<\/div>\r\n <p>The couple married just before Brad shipped off to Iraq in 2004 for a 13-month deployment. Brad returned to his bride deeply altered by post-traumatic stress (PTS). \u201cIt changed our lives,\u201d Jesy said. <\/p>\r\n \r\n<p>They nearly divorced early in their marriage, but both came to know the Lord in 2008 and worked on piecing their relationship back together. Stresses and strains remain to this day, even as God has called them to ministry.<\/p> \r\n\r\n<p>Focused on God and each other, their time at Samaritan Lodge was restorative for body and soul. <\/p>\r\n\r\n<p>\u201cThis week here has been like a breath of fresh air,\u201d Brad said in Alaska after the couple rededicated their marriage to God and one another in a public ceremony led by our chaplains. \u201cFrom the classes you take to the food you eat, you feel love, you feel Jesus, the peace. You can feel that people have prayed for this time, for us to be able to be here and receive.\u201d <\/p> -->\r\n\r\n<h3 class=\"subhead\">Ongoing Connection and Discipleship<\/h3>\r\n\t\t\r\n\t\t\t<p>The experience in Alaska is just the beginning of our ministry to military couples. Samaritan\u2019s Purse chaplains follow up with them over the long term through our Family Care program. Our staff connects couples with local churches, engages families through regular personal contact (phone calls, emails, social media, visits), offers discipleship opportunities, and meets with them at regional gatherings.<\/p>\r\n\t\t\t<p>Operation Heal Our Patriots reunions and training events also benefit couples by providing more Christian teaching and tools to fortify their marriage. Many of the participants have also developed deep relationships with one another and support each other directly in a variety of ways.<\/p>\r\n\t\t\t<!--<p>\u201cThe Operation Heal Our Patriots family has been a big part of our lives and has helped us through a lot of hard and painful times,\u201d said Marine Sergeant Edwin Bono, who attended last year\u2019s reunion with his wife Elizabeth.<\/p>-->\r\n\t\t\t<p>Additionally, our new Team Patriot program gives our military couples the opportunity to deploy with each other to communities hard-hit by natural disasters.
