Mission Organization<\/h3>\r\n

Salt and Light Ministry Foundation<\/a> (Ministerio Sal y Luz) is a nonprofit Christian organization located in the northern part of Honduras. The ministry is based on Matthew 5:13-16 where Jesus tells believers that they are the salt that provides flavor to the world and are the light in the midst of darkness that guides people to Himself. The ministry\u2019s vision is to fulfill the Great Commission by proclaiming the Gospel, communicating the love of God in Honduras through His Word and deeds. <\/p>\r\n \r\n

Profile<\/h3>\r\n

One of Salt and Light Ministry Foundation\u2019s first projects was to build a modern, well-equipped medical\/dental clinic in the Lake Yajoa region of Honduras. The clinic has several examination rooms, a minor procedure room, and 2 dental rooms. A state-of-the-art front office includes fully digital medical record capabilities and upgraded computer equipment. The building has a pharmacy area and several administrative offices for Sal y Luz. A chapel was built to provide an area for staff to start each day with prayer and for local pastors to pray with patients throughout the day. The Sal y Luz Medical Clinic is staffed by a full-time physician and a full-time dentist as well as nurses and support staff. Medical and dental care is provided on a sliding scale fee, allowing access to healthcare for all who need it. Both dental X-ray and obstetrical\/general ultrasound are available. In addition to in-clinic care, the medical staff periodically visits homebound patients and oversees 4 soup kitchens to assure adequate nutrition for school children. These kitchens are supported by U.S. churches and provide lunches 5 days per week. Children are screened for anemia and growth retardation and are provided parasite prophylaxis.<\/p>\r\n \r\n

Location<\/h3>\r\n

Sal y Luz is located approximately 3km southeast of the town of Pe\u00f1a Blanca in the far southern part of the Cortes Department, along the shores of Lake Yojoa.<\/p>\r\n \r\n

Climate<\/h3>\r\n

Very hot and humid.<\/p>\r\n \r\n

Language<\/h3>\r\n

Spanish is the official language.<\/p>\r\n \r\n

Religion<\/h3>\r\n

Although 95% of the population is considered Roman Catholic, it is extremely unlikely that most of these will have read or heard even the most basic precepts of the faith.<\/p>\r\n \r\n

Travel<\/h3>\r\n

Volunteers will fly commercially into San Pedro Sula, Honduras. The driver from Sal y Luz will pick up volunteers at the airport for the 2-hour drive to the clinic. Road construction can potentially add an additional hour to the drive.<\/p>\r\n \r\n

Housing<\/h3>\r\n

Volunteers of the same sex\/families can stay in the ministry\u2019s guesthouse which has two bedrooms, one bathroom, a kitchen, living room, and laundry room. Larger groups will be booked in rooms at a nearby hotel. Transportation is provided between the clinic and the hotel. Laundry services are provided at the hotel.<\/p>\r\n \r\n

Food<\/h3>\r\n

For volunteers staying at the guesthouse, all meals will be provided. For those at the hotel, breakfast is available at the facility\u2019s restaurant. <\/p>\r\n <\/div>\r\n <\/section>\r\n \r\n
