
Emma Lou Sivley Cross, 91, of Vernon, Texas, passed away on Thursday, June 6, 2024, in Vernon, Texas. She was born on April 5, 1933, in Honey Grove, Texas, to L.F. and Verna Gilbert Sivley. Emma was the eldest of six children.
She grew up in farming communities around Honey Grove, Estelline and eventually Vernon. Her family moved to Northside during her senior year and she graduated from Northside High School in 1951. Emma met and married her husband, Carlos Cross, at Calvary Baptist Church in Vernon. They married December 24, 1954, and moved to Pecos, Texas. They had three children. Eventually they moved to Amarillo where they raised their family. In 1992 they returned to Vernon, Texas, to care for her parents.
Emma loved her church, Calvary Baptist, and was active in serving and attending through the years. Her smile and genuine warmth and care for others has been experienced by many.
Emma is preceded in death by her loving husband, Carlos; her parents, L.F. and Verna Sivley; brothers and sisters, Glenn, Lynn, Chloe, and Robert; her son, Bobby; and grandson, Ben.
She is survived by her son, David Cross and wife, Moira Butler of Corpus Christi; daughter, Diane Pentecost and husband, Greg of Vernon; and brother, Roy Sivley and wife, Becky of Clyde; sister-in-law, Virginia McGann Sivley; three grandchildren and six greatgrandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday June 12, 2024, at 2:00 p.m. at Calvary Baptist Church with Mr. Mike Klappenbach officiating. Burial will follow at Wilbarger Memorial Park under the direction of Sullivan Funeral Home. Visitation will be held Tuesday from 6:00 p.m.–8:00 p.m. at Sullivan Funeral Home.
