After Helene, Rebuilding Continues in Western North Carolina

A Watauga County family praises God for their new house built by Samaritan's Purse.

When Hurricane Helene whipped through the rural community of Millers Creek in western North Carolina last year, it uprooted several trees on Nathan and Haley Eggers’ property and hurled them through the roof of their house. The ceiling collapsed, trapping Haley and her young daughter in the rubble. Thankfully, they were quickly rescued and escaped injury. Their house, however, was totally destroyed.

Following the upheaval, the Eggers soon came in contact with Samaritan’s Purse and learned that the ministry would build them a new house at no cost. Nathan and Haley were recently presented with the keys to their home constructed by our team of volunteers.

“Thank you to everyone,” Haley said. “Thank you to the Lord for keeping us safe and for putting us where we are now.”

Watch the video above to see the Eggers step inside their new home for the first time.

Many residents in western North Carolina continue to recover in the wake of Hurricane Helene’s devastation in September 2024. Please keep those who were affected and our rebuild teams in your prayers.
