Samaritan’s Purse COO Edward Graham helps dedicate a new bridge we installed for a homeowner in western North Carolina.
Hurricane Helene damaged the bridge that Tina Palmer used every day to get to her Deep Gap, North Carolina, home on the other side of a creek. Since the September 2024 storm, she has been afraid to even walk over the faltering structure, much less drive across it. Samaritan’s Purse U.S. Disaster Relief recently came to her aid by installing a solid new bridge with concrete footers.
“She’s someone who’s very special to me because she’s a Gold Star mother. She lost her son in combat,” said Samaritan’s Purse COO and former Army Ranger Edward Graham. Tina’s son, Army Sergeant Dillon Baldridge, was killed in action on June 10, 2017, in Afghanistan.

Samaritan’s Purse blessed Palmer with a Billy Graham Training Center Bible signed by those present for the dedication of the bridge.
“It going to always be a reminder of the people that came together for me,” she said.
Graham saw the bridge as a picture of the work of Samaritan’s Purse. “The team here did a great job. If you’re going to do something, do it right the first time and make it last. So that’s what we want to do here at Samaritan’s Purse—give people our very best because that’s what the Lord entrusted to us.”
