University of Connecticut students participate in a Samaritan’s Purse rebuild in North Carolina.

Instead of heading to the beach in shorts and flip-flops, University of Connecticut students spent their spring break in Waynesville, North Carolina, donning work clothes and orange U.S. Disaster Relief T-shirts. They were rebuilding a home damaged by Hurricane Helene.

“I wanted to do something that was productive and that was contributing to the Kingdom of God over spring break,” said student Caroline Chen. “It’s been very encouraging to work alongside the Samaritan’s Purse staff and alongside other classmates of mine and to see how God is working through us.”

Amid running circular saws and nail guns, the students wrote verses of Scripture on the studs of the new home, as a prayerful blessing over the homeowners.

Chen said, “I think this week has been a highlight of, honestly, my entire college experience.”
