God's Answer to Losing Everything

My family received assistance after displacement, sickness, and death

Atabe Dranzo is living in Faradje, DRC, after being displaced from her village

During the war in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, my family lost everything. In 2008, the Lord’s Resistance Army attacked our village. My husband and I traveled with our five children and my hypertensive and partially paralyzed mother more than 13 miles by foot to reach Faradje, the closest town. We only carried a few belongings and our four goats.

When we arrived at Faradje, three of our goats died. I was often sick and weak, and after some testing, doctors discovered that I have HIV/AIDS. Around that same time, my husband died. I was traumatized.

The doctor advised me to seek treatment at a hospital in a larger town. I didn’t have the money, and I was forced to sell our only goat to afford the transportation. Now, little by little, I’m regaining the strength to farm on our plot so that my family can survive.

Samaritan’s Purse has made a difference in my life ever since 2010. They provided my family with food and non-food assistance after we were displaced. I was also blessed to receive four goats. One of them has just given birth to a healthy kid. In addition, I’ve also received advice on agriculture techniques from attending training sessions led by Samaritan’s Purse.

I’ve never received help like this, even from my own family. To me, this help is God’s answer to my daily prayers and has strengthened my faith. I’m sincerely grateful for all the material, spiritual, and emotional support they give to vulnerable people like me for God’s glory.
