On March 14, over 130 fires scoured 44 Oklahoma counties. The Stillwater and Little Salt Creek Fires alone tragically consumed more than 100 homes.

In Stillwater, one of those belonged to Sean Roulston who said he’d never thought anything like this would ever happen to his neighborhood.

Samaritan’s Purse volunteers are working to help homeowners like him recover personal property from the ashes as well as do chainsaw work and temporary tarping.

Volunteers helped Roulston locate his wedding ring that he thought was lost. “Intact. In great condition, actually. It’s got a little torch on it to give it some character, but that’s good.” Grateful, he said, “It means a lot just to have the help. … This task would have been enormous without you guys.”

Dan Byrd, another homeowner in Stillwater, said, “I’d just put down mulch and cleaned up the flower beds. And I thought, I’ve got a nice house. … This is really good—then it’s gone.”

For Byrd, the help from Samaritan’s Purse meant he would never have to wonder if he’d done enough to search through what was left of his home. He was grateful for what the volunteers found.

Since March 20, more than 175 volunteers have served over 2,200 hours in Oklahoma, ministering to homeowners like Roulston and Byrd in Jesus’ Name.
