Life Changed Because of the Bees

Beekeeping is one of many livelihood programs Samaritan's Purse has in Cambodia, all of which aim to show God's love as families rise out of poverty.

A Cambodian family finds hope for their future through a Samaritan's Purse beekeeping program.

Seangly and her husband farmed in the Pailin Province in Cambodia but after he became too sick to work, they fell behind on their bills. Money and other essentials became scarce. Seangly feared for her family’s future.

“I was sad and concerned,” she said, “that one day our land and house will be confiscated.”

Samaritan’s Purse came alongside Seangly and her family through a beekeeping livelihood program. As she learned to care for the 10 hives she was given, her outlook radically changed. Now, she had hope.

“Firstly, I could see honey as a source of income to buy medicine for my husband, as well as food, and [we] could also pay debts,” Seangly said. “Before I was scared that my land would be taken, but now I’m so happy. Thanks again to Samaritan’s Purse from my heart.”

Watch the video story above to learn more about how God is providing for Seangly and other families in Cambodia through beekeeping. Each family we help gives us an opportunity to share the Gospel of Jesus Christ with them so that they have hope, not just for today, but for eternity.

SUPPORT
Beekeeping Honeybees produce more than a sweet treat for struggling families. Honey and beeswax can be sold to pay for education, healthcare, or other needs. The bees also pollinate plants, increasing fruit and vegetable yields. As our teams provide farmers with beekeeping equipment and training, we are able to lead many to Christ. “We thank God for this project, because we came to know the Gospel of salvation,” said Jose Santos, a young father in Honduras. A $20 gift can help a family get started in the honey business.
