Samaritan’s Purse begins building a new home for a Hurricane Helene survivor.
Samaritan’s Purse has started rebuilding homes that were lost to Hurricane Helene, including one for Kim Mitchum in Mountain City, Tennessee.
The September 2024 storm flooded Mitchum’s home—damaging her belongings and leaving her with a black mold infestation that could not be stopped.
When our U.S. Disaster Relief teams came to her aid with the offer of a brand-new house, Mitchum said, “I’m so excited. … It was hard to let go of our [old] home. Logically, it was an easy decision. Emotionally, it was very, very difficult.”

Samaritan’s Purse crews said that their planned concrete construction will make her new place very strong, “like a bunker.”
“Thank you doesn’t seem to be enough,” Mitchum said. “I’m just so grateful for God sending them to me when we really needed them. Yes, I’m very grateful for Samaritan’s Purse.”
The expected completion date for the new Mitchum home is June of this year.
