Volunteers are already at work--and many more volunteers are needed--in a three-state response after deadly storms hit the heartland. We are responding in Nebraska, Iowa, and Oklahoma.
Samaritan’s Purse volunteers are at work in Nebraska and Iowa, and will begin work soon in Oklahoma, in the wake of deadly weekend storms–spawning scores of tornadoes–that hit the Midwest and Plains leaving widespread destruction and killing several people.
.
Many more volunteers will be needed soon in hard-hit communities as we help homeowners in Jesus’ Name to clean up their homes and property. Volunteers will help remove debris from yards, tarp damaged roofs, and cut up fallen trees. Volunteers will also have opportunities to share the hope found only in the Lord Jesus Christ.
We will work out of host churches at each response location. • Nebraska: Brookside Church–Elkhorn Campus–at 3434 N 204th Street in Elkhorn. • Iowa: Fellowship Church at 18999 US-59 in Oakland. Day volunteers check in at 727 Main Street in Minden. • Oklahoma. Crossway Church at 2108 W Broadway Avenue in Sulphur.
Billy Graham Rapid Response Team chaplains will be on hand in neighborhoods to provide emotional support and spiritual care.
Deadly Storms Barrel Through the Heartland
On Friday, twisters tore through the Elkhorn community near Omaha, Nebraska, and the small town of Minden, Iowa. On Saturday, deadly tornadoes hit the small town of Sulphur, Oklahoma, and surrounding areas.
Samaritan’s Purse deployed teams and equipment over the weekend to Douglas County, Nebraska, and Pottawattamie County, Iowa. U.S. Disaster Relief Units #3 and #4–tractor trailers carrying relief supplies and equipment–and other relief vehicles arrived Monday afternoon in the two locations.
A third unit–U.S. Disaster Relief Unit #1–will arrive later today in Oklahoma.
Samaritan’s Purse is also responding to spring storms in Slidell, Louisiana, and Rock Hill, South Carolina.
Please pray for hurting residents in this region, for the churches ministering to them, and for our teams.
