An EF-1 tornado sliced through the town of Bowie, Texas, on Friday, May 22, damaging dozens of homes. Soon after, Samaritan’s Purse volunteers were busy clearing yards and homes of trees and debris and placing tarps on storm-damaged roofs.

We assisted homeowners throughout Montague County, working in Jesus’ Name to help hurting people. We completed work on more than 40 homes, and over the course of this brief response we met a number of homeowners who were encouraged in their faith by the work of Samaritan’s Purse.

One homeowner we met knew little of God. A Billy Graham Rapid Response Team chaplain told the man that God loved him, as our volunteers worked in a cold drizzle to clear his yard of trees and debris. The chaplain went on to explain the Good News of the Lord Jesus Christ.

“I had never heard that before,” he said. “I had never heard that God loves me.”

And on that same day, as he first learned of God’s love, he received that love by putting his faith and trust in Jesus as Lord and Savior. “I accepted Christ into my heart,” he said, placing his hand over his heart. “I felt it right here.”

Though our work finishes May 29, please continue to pray for Bowie, Texas, and that God would continue to strengthen the new-found faith of this homeowner. Pray also for our continued flood relief work in Midland, Michigan.
