In a hard-to-reach community in Liberia, John struggled to secure a stable livelihood due to a frustrating physical condition—a cleft lip.
He had endured a life of ridicule and rejection because people believed that he was cursed.
Finally, John received a life-changing operation from a Samaritan's Purse cleft lip and palate surgical team. Samaritan's Purse is sending volunteer teams on short-term trips around the world to provide cleft lip surgeries for both children and adults who have no access to these transformative procedures. We've done this work in countries including South Sudan, Liberia, Bolivia, Myanmar, and Guatemala.
We need medical volunteers who have a heart for sharing the love of Jesus Christ with those who are hurting and in desperate need. Volunteers should be flexible, committed to doing whatever necessary to serve the team, and able to work in a fast-paced environment with limited resources. Previous international experience is required. Volunteers should also be willing to secure the appropriate international travel documents and immunizations.
We are looking for volunteers in these specialties (all required licensures should be current):
- Cleft surgeons
(plastic, otolaryngologist, and oral maxillofacial) - Anesthesiologists
(pediatric experience preferred) - Certified Nurse Anesthetists
- Pediatricians
- Pediatric nurses
- Perioperative nurses
(Pre-op, PACU, OR) - Surgical technologists
- Speech language pathologists
