In Memory Of
David Carpenter - Augusta, MI

David A. “Dave” Carpenter, age 77, of Augusta, Michigan, passed away at home on Friday, October 27, 2023. He was born in Kalamazoo on December 18, 1945. He is the son of Charles H. and Rosalie (Alm) Carpenter. Dave graduated from Galesburg-Augusta High School with the class of 1964 and faithfully served his country in the United States Marine Corps Reserves from 1965 to 1971, obtaining the rank of corporal.

In January 2018, Dave retired from W.W. Grainger, Inc. after 32 years of service. He previously worked at Griffin Pest Control and Ragan Pest Control from 1978 to 1985, and as a store manager at Quality Farm and Fleet from 1969 to 1978. Dave served the Ross Township community for more than 24 years as a member of the Planning Commission and Zoning Board of Appeals, where he has served as chairman since 2001.

Dave married Margaret Meersma on November 3, 1967, beginning a nearly 57 year life journey together. In addition to Margaret, he is also survived by his daughter, Heather (Mike) Wall of Clarkston; his grandchildren, Olivia Wall of Tennessee and Seth Wall of South Dakota; and two brothers, Don (Joyce) Carpenter of Kalamazoo and Philip (Tracy) Carpenter of Washington. Dave was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, James Carpenter.

Dave had a great sense of humor, and he genuinely enjoyed the challenge of fixing anything that had to be fixed. He was caring, likeable, and always willing to lend a helping hand to anyone in need. He loved the outdoors and cars, with a special affinity for Corvettes, but nothing compared to the love he had for his wife, family, and two grandchildren. Most importantly, Dave loved Jesus Christ as his personal Lord and Savior, and he publicly reiterated this on October 23, 2023 by posting (on Facebook) that he knows "the author of his story, and it’s Jesus!” How comforting to know that Dave is physically healed and in Heaven today!

At Dave’s personal request, a small family gathering took place but no services are planned.
