William Edward “Ed” Barefoot, 72, of Newton Grove, passed away on Monday, December 13, 2021, at University of North Carolina Hospital, Chapel Hill.
Ed, born May 1, 1949, in Harnett County, was the son of the late William Howard Barefoot and Luna Lee Barefoot. He owned Ed Barefoot’s Surveying, Greater Carolina Auction Company, and served as a medic in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War.
Ed grew up in Blackman’s Crossroads, and moved to Newton Grove when he married the love of his life, and boss, Belinda. They worked diligently over the years to build a magnificent life together, and anyone that knew them knew that they were an unbreakable team. Ed and Belinda raised two daughters that were his world and he showed it daily with kindness, lots of patience, and an undying love. He was blessed with three granddaughters that gave him an abundance of joy, love, and were the light of his life for the last thirteen years. Ed loved his horses, fishing, and Sneads Ferry, but more than anything, he loved “home” and his family.
Ed Barefoot will be deeply missed—he was loved so greatly by his family and “his girls!” He was truly a wonderful example of a husband, father, grandfather, and man. He was not a man of few words—he just put thought in the words that he spoke. Ed Barefoot was truly the stuff men are made of and he leaves behind such a legacy. He will be missed forever!
Ed was a selfless person and was always willing to help people. The family would like to honor his memory by helping others. In lieu of flowers, the family has created a Samaritan’s Purse Memorial Page to raise money for the tornado victims in Arkansas and Kentucky. If you would like to donate to help these people out, it would be an honor to his memory.
Ed is survived by his wife of 51 wonderful years, Belinda Bryan Barefoot; daughters, Ragan Pearson and son-in-law, Matthew Pearson, of Clinton, and Jessy Barefoot and son-in-law, Mark Cruz, of Newton Grove. He also leaves behind three adoring granddaughters, Delaney and Hadley Pearson, and Harper Cruz. His surviving siblings are Barbara Pleasant and Anthony Barefoot, and several nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be held at 3:00 p.m., on Friday, December 17, at Creekside Chapel at Newton Grove Florist, with Reverend Glenn McCullen officiating. Interment will follow at Hillcrest Cemetery. The family will receive friends immediately after the interment at the grave.
