Edward Francis Szpindor Sr, age 86, passed away peacefully in Woodstock, Georgia, surrounded by his family. Ed was born on September 11, 1937, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
Ed is survived by his three children, Ed Jr, and wife, Penny, Ken and wife, Amy, and Sheri and husband, Adam; and eight cherished grandchildren, Ashley (and her husband Davin), Ethan, Josh, Cole, Nicholas, Michael, Matthew, and Jacob. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Payton, with whom he shared over 20 years with traveling and enjoying life.
Encouraged by his mother, Ed loved learning and became a carrier student proudly graduating from law school at the age of 40 with his doctorate in jurisprudence. He applied his knowledge of law to previous carrier in technology and technical documentation and specializing in copyright protection and intellectual property. He always spoke proudly of the work he did at the U.S. Patent office in Washington, D.C.
Ed had a love for polka dancing that he shared with Payton. They became well-known in the polka community across Georgia and the Southeast. Their graceful moves and spirited enthusiasm were a testament to their shared love and zest for life. Ed and Payton together managed a dance group called the Euro Folk Dancers who performed at events across the South, at times performing as far away as Colorado.
Ed had an identical twin brother, Stan, and a sister, Dorothy, both of whom have passed away. He is survived by his younger brother, Ron. Ed shared a deep connection with Stan and they had a similar sense of humor and enjoyed the occasional practical joke. Ed was known as Pop-pop or Grumpy Monkey by his grandkids and always had jokes to share.
Ed was a man of faith and longtime member of Peachtree Presbyterian Church. He participated in numerous church activities and outreach programs, always ready to lend a helping hand and offer words of encouragement and wisdom.
Later in his life, Ed lived in senior living and was a favorite by his neighbors and staff. Ed was charming, never complained, and always wore a smile on his face. He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who had the honor of knowing him.
