Faye Harris Gaillard, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and friend, passed away peacefully at the age of 93. Born on April 6, 1931, in Honea Path, South Carolina, to the late James E. Harris, Sr., and Nora Mattison Harris, Faye spent her formative years in Greenwood, South Carolina, before graduating from Furman University in 1953 with a degree in Early Childhood Education.
Faye married Robert E. Gaillard, and together they made their home in Walhalla, South Carolina. For 30 years, she shaped the minds and hearts of countless young students in Oconee County. She saw the good in everyone and had a special gift for nurturing children.
A faithful member of Walhalla First Baptist Church for 71 years, Faye lived her life as a shining example of her deep love for the Lord. She was an active participant in church life, eager to serve and share her love of Christ.
Faye found joy in life’s simple pleasures—spending time with friends, reading, and cheering for her favorite teams. Though a graduate of Furman University, she was a dedicated fan of Clemson Tiger football. She spent many a fall Saturday with her son John cheering on the Tigers in Death Valley. She was also a dedicated fan of the Atlanta Braves.
Faye was known in the family for sending greeting cards to everyone for every occasion during the year. This legacy of love, faith, and kindness will continue to inspire all those whose lives she touched. Her family and friends take comfort in knowing that she is now at peace with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
Faye is survived by her son, John and his wife, Margaret of Greer, South Carolina. She was a proud and loving grandmother to Carolina and Mattison, taking great joy in their accomplishments and lives. In addition, she is survived by her sister-in-law, Joan Harris and many nieces and nephews who she loved.
She was predeceased by her husband, Robert; and her siblings, Mamsie Russell and James E. Harris, Jr.
The family would like to thank the caregivers of National Health Care, Prisma Health and Hospice of the Foothills. They displayed amazing love and care for mom and the family during her final days.
