Gloria Jean Beard Reynolds was born on May 9, 1950, in Charleston, South Carolina. She passed away on February 11, 2025, in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, following a courageous nine-year battle with Stage IV Metastatic Breast Cancer.
Gloria was the daughter of Gordon Stamps Beard, Jr. and Jean Graham Beard. She was the blessed wife of Edward L. “Petesy” Reynolds, Jr., with whom she shared fifty-two years of marriage. She was the most wonderful Mom to Whitney Reynolds Yarborough (Hank) and Grant Beard Reynolds (Kim). Also, she was the proud grandmother of Caroline, Claire, and Blake Yarborough, and Kyle, Ashley, and Taylor Reynolds.
A 1968 graduate of Myrtle Beach High School, Gloria pursued her passion for helping others by earning an Associate’s Degree in Nursing from the University of South Carolina at Coastal. She worked as a registered nurse before dedicating herself to raising her family. As her children grew older, Gloria resumed her professional life in various roles, including many years in administration at Myrtle Beach Middle School.
From 1997 until 2016, Gloria served as the Lay Ministry Coordinator at All Saints Church in Pawleys Island, which was her most fulfilling professional work. This role allowed her to combine her administrative talents with her deep faith, serving both her church family and her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
Gloria’s unwavering faith and boundless love for her family were evident to all who knew her. Her legacy of faith, love, and service will forever inspire them.
Gloria’s family is so grateful for her many precious friends, who sacrificially loved, cared for and supported Gloria in innumerable ways throughout her life but especially in recent months as her health declined. They are also thankful for the amazing doctors and medical professionals who cared for Gloria with such wisdom and who were used by God as instruments of healing to extend Gloria’s life in defiance of the medical odds. Too, her family so appreciates the wonderful team at Agape Care, who provided compassionate hospice care for Gloria over the last several weeks.
A celebration of Gloria’s life will be held at All Saints Church in Pawleys Island at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, February 18, 2025, followed by a reception. Visitation will take place at McMillan Small Funeral Home in Myrtle Beach on Monday, February 17, 2025, from 4:00 p.m.–6:00 p.m.
