In Memory Of
Jo Ann Ball - Kansas City, KS

Jo Ann Ball, age 88, of Kansas City, Kansas went to be with the Lord on Tuesday January 9, 2024. She was born April 5, 1935, in Kansas City, Missouri to Charles L and Floy Ball (Cox) and was a lifelong resident of Kansas City, Kansas.

Jo Ann was a member of the Hoskings Popeye Band in Wyandotte County and a graduate of Wyandotte High School Class of 1953. She sang in her church choir and was a Sunday School teacher for many years. As a teenager, she began working at the family business, Chas Ball Market and later Chas Ball SunFresh and she continued to work at the store even after the business sold for over 65 years of service. Although Jo Ann was small in stature, she had a big presence at the store.

Jo Ann was a very caring and loving person as exemplified by her long-term care of her mother and has been the extended family’s central contact for many years. She dearly loved her family, friends and neighbors, those she worked with as well as everyone she interacted with. She especially loved children and they loved her. She traveled the world with family and friends. Jo Ann has been part of a strong neighborhood network which has been very supportive in recent years as she became less mobile. Jo Ann will be greatly missed, but our loss is Heaven’s gain.

Neighborhood dogs knew where Jo Ann lived as she would always have a treat and fresh water for them. She supported many pet agencies through the years and devotedly cared for her own dogs over the years, including Butters who was a unique rescue dog and a great companion for her.

Jo Ann was preceded in death by her brother, Charles W Ball Sr. She is survived by sister-in-law Susanna Ball; four nieces and nephews, Charles (Amy) Ball Jr, Marlene (Garry) Ahlgren, Karen (David) Johnson, John (Yvonne) Ball; eight grand-nieces and nephews, Erik (Heather) Ahlgren, Austin Ahlgren, Ryan Ahlgren, Nate Ahlgren, Avery Ball, Lily Ball, Ellison Ball, Jonathan Ball; and many beloved cousins, family, friends, neighbors, co-workers, customers and Butters all of whom will mourn her passing and celebrate her memory.

Visitation will be from 10:00–11:00 a.m. Friday, January 19, 2024, followed by funeral services at 11:00 a.m. at Porter Funeral Home, 1835 Minnesota Avenue, Kansas City, Kansas. Interment will be in Memorial Sunset Gardens (formerly known as Memorial Park Cemetery).
