Lorraine M. Spaid of Durango, Colo., passed away at home on June 30, 2022, after living a fulfilling life. She was 89 years young. Lorraine was born September 1932, to Marvin and Mae Asmus in Grosse Pointe, Michigan.
Lorraine met Willian D. Mitchell at Michigan State, married in 1954, moved to Pennsylvania in 1962, and divorced in 1971. To their marriage, Monica and Karen were born. Lorraine met “Buck” while working as a real estate agent. She married Arthur (Buck) Spaid in 1974, and they were together 32 years before Buck went home to be with the Lord
Lorraine started playing the piano at age 12 and went on to play flawlessly for many years. She served at church by playing the organ or piano. In her later years, she would play for seniors at the Senior Center. Lorraine also liked to read and participated in many book clubs. Lorraine enjoyed walking and, at 69, hiked down to the Grand Canyon’s Phantom Ranch and hiked back out two days later. Lorraine loved being a host for dinner parties, preparing lovely meals.
While living in Scottsdale, Ariz., Lorraine participated in a Prayer Shawl Ministry, knitting shawls for people in need. In Arizona, she also baked all sorts of goodies for the Rio Verde Fire Department, including the breakfast meal for training sessions.
Lorraine is predeceased by her husband, Buck, as well as her brother, Marvin Asmus, Jr.
