Louise Goldsborough Patton Pearson passed away on April 20, 2023, at the age of 84. Born on September 23, 1938, to the late Francis Landey and Louise Patton,
Louise grew up in Leesburg, Virginia, and spent summers with family and cousins in Bermuda. She graduated from St. Catherine’s School in Richmond, Virginia, and went on to Brown University in Providence, Rhode Island, where she was a member of Phi Beta Kappa, graduated cum laude, and delivered the 1960 Class Oration. Shortly after graduation, she married Taylor Peter Pearson, a fellow classmate. Louise received her master’s degree in Remedial Reading from Southern Connecticut State University which she used to teach English and reading not just at high school level but also at the Italian Air Force Academy. Reading was her passion and she always had a book in hand! Louise was a member of the Colonial Dames Society of America.
Louise loved adventures, from snorkeling in Bermuda to hiking Mount Fuji, sightseeing in Europe, and cruising the Caribbean. She even loved camping and at the age of 80 went on a High Ropes Course. Thanks to Uncle Sam and the Navy, she not only lived in several states but also Germany, Japan, Italy, and England. When her adult children lived in Germany, Spain, and Italy, she visited them there. Yet Louise also loved entertaining guests in her home, friends, family, visiting missionaries, Bible study and home church groups, children having facial reconstructive surgery with Operation Smile, and the occasional teenager. All were welcome at her house and table as her bright smile and expressive blue eyes lit up the room. After residing in Virginia Beach for 20 years, she returned to Northern Virginia in 2015 to Greenspring Retirement Community, where even in memory care she had a ready smile for everyone.
Louise also loved her family dearly. She was an amazing wife, Mom, Nana, Auntie, sister, and friend. She touched the lives of so many people. She will be greatly missed by Pete, her husband of 61 years; her daughter, Kris (John) Markovich of Fairfax, Virginia; sons, Steve (Wendy) Pearson of Vienna, Virginia, and Scott (Christie) Pearson of Suwanee, Georgia; and adopted daughter, Leana (Tim) Lopez of Dover, Pennsylvania; as well as her twelve grandchildren, Kate, Rachel (Daniel), David, Sarah, Becca, PJ, Matthew, Nathaniel, Thomas, Derrick, Yanik, and Zealand.
A Celebration of Life service is scheduled for 1:00 P.M. on May 5, 2023, at Burke Community Church at, 9900 Old Keene Mill Road, Burke, Virginia.
