Mickey Herbert Walker
May 30, 1932 - August 10, 2022

On Wednesday, August 10, 2022 Mickey Herbert Walker, loving husband and father of two children, grandfather of five, and great-grandfather of five, passed away at the age of 90, in Manassas, Virginia. Mickey was born in Jackson, Ohio on May 30, 1932, to parents Floyd Ellsworth and Freda Marie Walker. He attended Jackson Public Schools where he played high school football and sang in the glee club. He married his high school sweetheart, Betty Jean Walker, on May 10, 1953, and together they raised two children, Glenn and Kathy. Mickey and his family have lived in and around the Manassas, Virginia area since 1968.

Mickey served his country during the Korean War as a navel Gunner on USS Soley and followed that with many years of civil service by working for the US Army Materiel Command until his retirement in 1989.

He was Baptist and attended church regularly. Mickey had a strong faith in God, was a friend to all, and well known for his jokes and quips. He was an avid outdoorsman, hunter and fisherman. He knew all of the best fishing spots along the Occoquan Reservoir and Bull Run River. Mickey was also a prolific woodworker and craftsman, using reclaimed wood from the family farm in Jackson to create heirloom pieces of furniture, cabinets, and crosses for all the members of the family. He was one of a long legacy of Walker men who could fix and create almost anything with his own hands - from building houses to rebuilding engines on cars. He truly was most at home in his workshop and the woods.

Mickey was preceded in death by his father, Floyd Ellsworth Walker, and his mother, Freda Marie Walker. He is survived by his wife, Betty; son, Glenn (June) Walker of Haymarket, Virginia; daughter, Kathy (Kendall) Price of Hackett, Arkansas; and sister, Mary Ann McGuire of Gallipolis, Ohio. He is also survived by his five grandchildren: Tabitha Walker of Glasgow, Scotland; Nathan (Katie) Walker of Haymarket, Virginia; Alicia Walker of Fairfax Virginia; Matthew Price of Dallas, Texas; Michelle (Randy) Johnson of Hackett, Arkansas; and his great grandchildren: Mia, Zoey, Jonathan, Hoosier, and Nathaniel.

Private family burial service will be at the National Cemetery at Quantico on August 17. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to Samaritan's Purse.
