He graduated from Lakeside High School in Atlanta, Georgia, and went on to Furman University in Greenville, South Carolina, where he excelled as a 2-sport, All-American athlete. After college, Mike continued his passion for football by playing for two World Football teams: The Philadelphia Bell and the Birmingham Vulcans.
For over 40 years, Mike devoted his life to coaching both high school and collegiate football. His influence stretched far beyond the football field, as he poured into the lives of countless athletes, inspiring them to be not just better players, but better men. His mentorship shaped careers, instilled discipline, and fostered values that his athletes carried with them for the rest of their lives. His coaching legacy lives on in the stories of the many lives he touched.
Mike was a man whose Christian faith was central to everything he did. He didn’t just speak the love of Jesus – he lived it every day. His unwavering faith was reflected in his relationships with family, friends, and colleagues. He showed others what it meant to walk boldly in the light of Christ. Outside of his role as a father and coach, one of Mike’s greatest passions was guiding fellow men toward a life rooted in faith. As a father, Mike led his family with the same strength, love, and courage he showed in all aspects of his life. He was a rock for his children, leading them with wisdom, unwavering support, and an enduring commitment to faith. His leadership didn’t falter, even in the final days of his life, as he continued to lead by example with grace and strength. Mike was a devoted husband to Kimbi, with whom he enjoyed 48 years of marriage.
Mike is survived by his loving wife, Kimbi Bartik; his children, Kelli Bartik, Bo (Gerlania) Bartik, and Kati (Ryan) Pope; his brothers, Pat (Darlene) Bartik and Tom (Renee) Bartik; and four grandchildren, Breece, Mikey, McKenzie, and Brooks.
