In Memory Of
Rachel Worthy Steen - Cayce, SC

Rachel Worthy Steen, 85, was born July 3, 1937, in Chester, South Carolina, and went home to be with her loving Savior on Thursday, October 27, 2022.

She graduated High School in 1955. Her senior yearbook quote was “Ye shall know her by her smile”. This was certainly shared with everyone she encountered. She moved to Cayce, her beloved adopted city in 1961. She was employed by Colonial Life and Accident Insurance Company where she worked for 33 years until her retirement in 1990. While at Colonial Life, she was certified as a Customer Service Executive and retired as the Claims Customer Service Manager. She established many lifelong friendships and found great joy in her career helping others develop as young men and women and watching them succeed.

After retiring from Colonial Life, she was employed by the Cayce Historical Museum until forced to retire for health reasons in 2015. She enjoyed promoting the rich history of the area. This was accomplished with Leo Redmond, Museum Director, and her incredible friend of 50 plus years. She enjoyed her career but her favorite role was that of “Nana” to her beloved granddaughter.

She was predeceased in death by her mother and father, Nellie Vinson Worthy and William Wade Worthy, and by her brothers, US Air Force Major William E “Billy” Worthy and Jimmy Ray Worthy. She leaves behind her former husband, Marion Richard Steen; one son, R. Gregg Steen, his wife, Christine Michaels Steen; and one granddaughter, Lauren Alice Steen of West Columbia; and one sister-in-law, Carolinda Duncan Worthy, of Greenville; and many wonderful nieces, nephews, and other beloved family members and friends.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, November 2, 2022, at Caughman-Harman Funeral Home, West Columbia Chapel with entombment to follow at Southland Mausoleum. The family will receive friends from 5:00–7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, November 1, 2022, at the Caughman-Harman Funeral Home, West Columbia Chapel, 820 West Dunbar Road, in West Columbia.
