In Memory Of
Ray Clifford Mowery, Jr. - Frisco, TX

Cliff Mowery, known simply as “Chief” by many, was a man of strong convictions and faith in Jesus. He lived a meaningful and purposeful life: through his faith, his family, and his life’s profession as an educator.

Cliff was born in Lubbock, Texas, attended Lubbock High School, and graduated from Texas Tech University in 1965. He also served as a soldier in the Army National Guard before spending over three decades in public education. He taught biology and then entered school administration, retiring as the vice principal at Garland High School in 1996.

Cliff loved God, his family, skiing, hiking, hunting, fishing, running races, working in the yard, and remained in awe of the beauty of the mountains. He was also a professional ski instructor who loved the sport and teaching others. He enjoyed meeting with friends, telling and listening to stories and was an accomplished “piddler” in his home office or around the house.

Cliff was never known to be fast but always known to do everything with excellence, wisdom, and careful deliberation. His kindness, steadiness, and reliability were among his greatest strengths. Cliff made people’s lives better, with loyalty, devotion, and caring for all.

Because of his unshakable trust in the truth and sovereignty of God, he saw and loved people for who they were, regardless of their generation, race, or creed. He wanted everyone to experience the love of Jesus and mentored many. He was an example to all, even as he approached death with an indescribable peace.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Ray and Eunice Mowery; and his sister, Linda Mowery. He is survived by the love of his life, Carol, his wife of 59 years; his three children, Royal Mowery, Melanee Permann, and Dinah Thomas; his daughter-in-law, Nancy Mowery; sons-in law Ken Permann and Ed Thomas; his sister, Susan Risen; grandchildren, Caroline and Charlie Hurdt, Wyatt and Taylor Thomas, Melanee Kate Thomas, Kyle Permann, Brett and Ethan Cain, Ellis Permann, Jefferson Thomas, Jacob Snyder, and Justin Snyder; and great-grandchildren, Gideon, Ronen, Elaine, and Lillian Kate Hurdt.

Chief will be tremendously missed. He blessed and enriched our lives and left us with full and grateful hearts.
