In Memory Of
Richard Lee Mayer - Columbus, OH

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Richard Lee (Dick) Mayer on February 23, 2025, at the age of ninety-three. Dick was born on January 18,1932, in Cincinnati, Ohio.

When Dick was young, his family lived in several places, including Cincinnati, Flushing, and Columbus, Ohio. He attended Bowling Green Military Academy and then The Ohio State University.

Over the years, Dick helped to build his family’s businesses, first in their grocery store, and then as a salesman for Mayer’s Furniture in Columbus, Ohio.

Richard was preceded in death by his parents, Earl Edwin and Martha Elizabeth (Brown) Mayer; his brother, Earl Edwin Mayer, Jr.; and son-in-law, Michael John Thomas McIntyre.

Dick met his beloved wife, Mary Ellen (nee: Canter) Mayer, when they were in their teens. They enjoyed 70 years of marriage, cherishing the time they were gifted to spend together, as well as with their beloved family. He is also survived by their children, Rebecca McIntyre, Richard Lee (Jaclyn) Mayer, II, and Leesa (Richard) Hartman. Dick was the proud grandfather to nine grandchildren, Eric Mayer, Patrick (Taryn) Mayer, Jon (Lisa) Morton, Chad (Casey) Hartman, Vince Hartman, Cameron (Haley) Hartman, Claire McIntyre, Colleen (Todd) Alexander, and Sean (Julie Wischer) McIntyre. He was also blessed with 12 great-grandchildren, Finn and Emma Mayer, Peyton, Isaiah, and Sage Morton, Elijah and Reagan Hartman, Carter and Benjamin Hartman, Madison and Kiera Alexander, and Ryan McIntyre.

Dick found joy in reading; listening to classical and Christian music; painting; volunteering at church and in the community; and collecting. But his favorite activity was to fill their home with his family, friends, food, and laughter.
