Richard "Rich" E. McClain, of Syracuse and Valparaiso, Indiana, passed away on October 7, 2021. He was born July 25, 1961, to Richard and Nadra McClain. On October 1, 2010, he married Karla Yoder of Nappanee. Rich is survived by his wife, Karla; three sons, Austin of Chicago, Illinois, Garrett of Syracuse, Indiana, and Jake of Kalamazoo, Michigan; and mother, Nadra of Hawthorne, California.
Rich grew up in Los Angeles, California, joining the U.S. Marine Corps at age 17. He graduated from University of California, Los Angeles on a ROTC scholarship with a degree in biology, and then served his country as a Navy aviator from 1984–1992. He was a A6 Intruder Bombarder Navigator and flew from aircraft carriers USS Kitty Hawk, USS Independence, and USS Nimitz. He left the Navy to pursue a career in medicine, graduating from Ohio University and his residency through Michigan State University. Rich has been practicing orthopedic surgery in Northern Indiana since 2002, with his latest practice at Great Lakes Orthopedics. He also attended Warsaw Community Church.
Private services will be officiated by Denny Wilson to celebrate Rich's life and heavenly homecoming. Memorials can be sent to Samaritan's Purse Operation Heal our Patriots.
