Sandra Swenson - Grand Rapids, MN

Sandra D. (Smith) Swenson, 72, of Grand Rapids, Minnesota, passed away Monday morning at Miller-Dwan ICU in Duluth, Minnesota, from respiratory and heart failure.

She was born on June 19, 1946, in Crookston, Minnesota, to Mary and Emmett LeDoux. Sandra spent her early years in Greece and Oklahoma on Air Force bases where her father was serving. After a brief time in Virginia, Minnesota, the family settled in Grand Rapids where Sandy graduated from high school in 1964. She spent the rest of her life in Grand Rapids, where she married and raised two daughters.

Later in life, Sandy met and married Bruce Swenson. They settled into a new home and she was very happy there. Sandy was a loving and giving person, loved the Lord, and had a servant’s heart. Everyone who knew Sandy loved her for the wonderful and fun person she was. Sandy worked for years at a group home and as a church secretary for five years.

She was preceded in death by her parents and by her first husband, Richard (Flip) Smith.

Sandy is survived by her husband Bruce Swenson of Grand Rapids; daughters Shelley Smith and Tracey (Nathan) Nyvall and sister Mary Jo (Blake) Elmquist, all of Woodbury, Minnesota; stepdaughters Melinda (Bill) Doms of Montrose and Addie Swenson of Deer River; stepson Lewis Swenson of Milwaukee; and six grandchildren.

The Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 19, 2019, at the Grand Rapids Alliance Church, with a visitation one hour prior to the service. Pastor Randy Junker and Pastor Dave Reiten will be officiating, and interment will be in Harris Cemetery. A lunch will be served following interment.
