Crisis in the Philippines

International Emergency Relief

Samaritan’s Purse is meeting physical and spiritual needs in the aftermath of the terrible storm that devastated the Philippines.

The deadly Super Typhoon Haiyan in November 2013 was one of the most powerful ever recorded. The winds leveled tens of thousands of homes. In some places, tsunami-like storm surges swept up to a mile inland, causing more destruction and loss of life. At least 580,000 people were displaced.

Samaritan’s Purse deployed disaster response specialists immediately after the storm. Community water filters, protective tarps, blankets, hygiene kits, and emergency family food packets were distributed to storm victims.

Our staff there continues to help storm victims by providing shelter, trainings on construction techniques, clean water, hygiene education, and provision of latrines, among other aid. In partnership with the local church, we have supplied Bibles and offered discipleship courses to help reach communities with spiritual care and support.

Please pray for recovery in the Philippines. Pray also for the ministry of our staff—that God would use them to bring many people to faith in Christ.
