Stay aware of road conditions headed to Asheville, where our volunteer base is located at the Billy Graham Training Center at The Cove.

Is God calling you to help storm victims in and around Asheville, North Carolina?

Samaritan’s Purse is working there, and we need an army of volunteers. Because of damage from Helene, many of the routes into the mountains of western North Carolina are closed.

Our base in Asheville (Buncombe County) is at the Billy Graham Training Center at The Cove, which is accessed from I-40 at exit 55. I-40 across the Blue Ridge near Old Fort reopened on Oct. 1.

Here are routes that are open as of Oct. 2:

  • From Winston-Salem and Greensboro: I-40 west reopened Oct. 1. Go to exit 55.
  • From Charlotte: Take I-85 south to U.S. 74 west to I-26 west to I-40 east to Exit 55. I-26 reopened on Monday.
  • From Atlanta: Take I-85 to Greenville, South Carolina, to U.S. 25 north to I-26 west to I-40 east to Exit 55.
  • From eastern Tennessee: I-40 and I-26 are closed near the state line, and other routes to Asheville are not safe for travel at this time.

As a reminder, gas may not be available on these roads; plan in advance. Traffic lights may be out; so it is not recommended to drive at night. Cell service is also spotty, so you may want to print out directions.
