This Memorial Day weekend 10 military couples arrived in Alaska for a week of Biblically based marriage training.
May 27 Update:
Ten wounded military personnel and their spouses arrived at Samaritan Lodge Alaska on Sunday, May 26. These first couples of the season are already going through Biblically based marriage training and enjoying wilderness excursions. One husband and wife received the Lord Jesus Christ as Savior on Sunday night.
On Memorial Day, the couples remembered the nation’s fallen heroes, many friends among them. In a service of remembrance, 195 people were honored by name.

Each week, from May 26-Sept. 20, wounded veterans and their spouses will embark on a journey to Samaritan Lodge along the shores of Lake Clark in southwestern Alaska. They will spend six days learning how to build their relationships on the foundation of God’s Word through chaplain-led, Biblically based marriage classes. Additionally, the couples will participate in wilderness excursions such as fishing, hiking, kayaking, and wildlife viewing to rekindle their relationships.
Since this Samaritan’s Purse project started in 2012, more than 1,700 couples have become a part of the Operation Heal Our Patriots family. We praise God that 765 participants have received Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior in Alaska, 904 individuals have been baptized, and 858 couples have recommitted their marriage to God.
Alaska is just the beginning of a lifelong relationship between Operation Heal Our Patriots and alumni couples. The ministry has an extensive family care program that continues for families long after they have left Alaska. Chaplains and staff help connect couples to local churches; provide ongoing care and support through marriage weekends and discipleship; offer leadership opportunities; and a bi-annual reunion for alumni to reconnect and hear from God’s Word.
Please continue to pray for these couples as they embark to Alaska. Pray for our volunteers and staff, and pray that many lives and marriages would be restored this summer through the power of the Gospel.
Operation Heal Our Patriots is open to married U.S. military personnel, current and former, who were wounded in combat or combat-related activities after Sept. 11, 2001.
