Samaritan's Purse volunteers are hard at work in northern California, helping homeowners recover after the Park Fire destroyed hundreds of homes.
Samaritan’s Purse is on the ground in Butte and Tehama counties in the north Central Valley of California—a region with a long history of catastrophic fires—where wildfires consumed nearly 450,000 acres of land and destroyed over 250 homes since igniting July 24. Now fully contained, the Park Fire was the fourth largest in the state’s history.
Samaritan’s Purse is working in the town of Cohasset, California, a community near Chico, which received the full force of the fire and experienced near total devastation. Volunteers teams are busy helping homeowners salvage personal property and sharing the hope of Jesus Christ across the scorched land.
A Disaster Relief Unit—a tractor trailer filled with supplies and equipment—deployed from our West Coast Ministry Center in Fullerton, California, just days after the fire was quelled to aid our volunteers in this response.
Teams are serving out of our host church, YWAM Chico, and Billy Graham Rapid Response Team chaplains are also on the ground in Cohasset to provide emotional support and spiritual comfort to homeowners still reeling in the wake of the blaze.
In years past, Samaritan’s Purse has responded to multiple fires in Northern California, including the deadly Camp Fire in 2018 and the Dixie Fire in 2021—both in the same region as Cohasset. As we return again to the region, we are partnering with churches to bring hope to weary homeowners in Jesus’ Name.
Please pray for the many families reeling from this devastating fire, and for our volunteers and staff as they serve. Please consider serving as the hands and feet of Jesus in Cohasset by signing up to volunteer today.
