Samaritan’s Purse is en route to Ohio after deadly floods. Teams are on the ground in Indiana assessing flood damage there, too. Pray for the Midwest as powerful thunderstorms continue.
Heavy rainfall deluged parts of Ohio in what’s become a week-long thunderstorm raging across parts of the Midwest. Floodwaters have rushed into homes, toppled power lines and trees, and caused emergency evacuations in hard-hit neighborhoods. One person has died.
Thousands of residents in communities across the counties of Perry and Muskingum, an hour southeast of the state capital, Columbus, fled their homes when rivers rapidly overflowed their banks earlier this week.
Samaritan’s Purse is responding to the Buckeye State in Jesus’ Name to help reeling homeowners recover while sharing the hope of the Gospel. We are also assessing a response to Indiana, where similar flooding has occurred and one person has also died.

Disaster Relief Unit #8—a tractor-trailer filled with tools and equipment—will arrive in Zanesville, Ohio, on Aug. 13. Our base of operations will be at Rolling Plains Global Methodist Church located at 3350 Moxahala Park Road.
Volunteers will soon begin working in the flooded communities to help reeling families mud out flooded basements, remove soiled drywall and flooring, salvage personal belongings, and take any strewn debris or fallen trees to the curb. Billy Graham chaplains will be on the ground to pray with homeowners and encourage local residents with the hope of the Gospel.
As rain and wind continue to batter the Midwest, Samaritan’s Purse assessors are working alongside emergency authorities in eastern Indiana to identify a possible response there.
Communities along the flooded White River, including the larger towns of Muncie and Anderson, are seeing the highest flood levels in decades. Rivers and creeks are still rising as more rain is expected to fall in the coming days.
