Our disaster relief response in Pelham, Alabama, closed on Nov. 4. We rejoice that God used 83 volunteers to help 84 homeowners, with three people placing their faith in the Lord Jesus Christ!

Please watch the video above to find out more about one homeowner, Penny Gibson, who thanks the Lord for the Samaritan’s Purse volunteers who helped clean up her house, becoming the hands and feet of Jesus to her.

Also, be encouraged by this excerpt from the final report of Kristin Holben who served as Samaritan’s Purse program manager there:

Just over four weeks ago, a deluge of rain dumped almost 20 inches of water in just a few hours on the city of Pelham and surrounding areas. Upon initial assessment, the damage to homes seemed to be very limited. But as reports continued to pour in, local officials realized that there were more than 350 homes affected and notified us of the extent of damage. We were privileged to respond here and quickly partnered with First Baptist Church Pelham, for a second time in the same year.

Over the course of the nearly three weeks that we have served here, the BGEA Rapid Response Team chaplains and our Samaritan’s Purse volunteers have met countless people with deep heartbreak in their lives: a woman who lost her husband to Covid just a couple weeks prior, a man whose wife was packing up to leave and divorce him, a woman whose husband had committed suicide, and so many more. Many of them were believers, and it was our great privilege to come into their lives to serve them, encourage them, pray for them, and remind them of God’s great love for them. Others did not yet have a relationship with the Lord, and in the midst of their pain, we had the great privilege of planting seeds of truth, sharing the Good News of the Gospel with them, and praying for them.

We were so happy to have witnessed the transforming work of God in the lives of three dear women as they made a decision for Christ….Please pray for them, that the follow-up from the Church will be embraced and that they will grow deeply in their relationship with their Lord.

Our host church, First Baptist Church Pelham, has been phenomenal. From the first day, we were welcomed and adopted as family. They helped us go door to door to every one of the 376 homes that had reported flooding to pray for them and find out if they still needed help….They prayed for us and encouraged us and cared for us. We are so grateful…
