Volunteers Building New Church in Alaska Port City

July 2, 2026 • United States

In Cordova, a new church rises on Prince William Sound.

Samaritan’s Purse is building a new church in the port city of Cordova, Alaska, on the eastern edge of Prince William Sound. The area is inundated with around 160 inches of precipitation each year, which over decades has wreaked havoc on Cordova Community Baptist Church. In early May, volunteers from across the U.S. began construction on the new facility, with completion scheduled for October.

“Samaritan’s Purse has come in with this mindset of ‘Let us build a church that lasts for generations in this community,’” said Pastor Mike Glover. “And that has been such a source of calm and peace to know that God is providing that for this church right now.”

Watch the video above to learn more and see what God is doing through our army of volunteers. And please pray for our team as they serve as the hands and feet of Jesus to the Cordova community.
