Congolese School Gardens Bless Hungry Students

noviembre 1, 2016 • Democratic Republic of the Congo
Rosaria Zawadi is a widowed mother living in the Democratic Republic of the Congo.

My husband’s death in March 2012 led me to think about my life. My hometown was hostile to me, so I decided to leave and move around 40 miles north to a different village. Through the work that I do in other people’s homes, I’m able to support myself and my two children who are still living at home.

The first time I heard about Samaritan’s Purse was through my children. They told me that Samaritan’s Purse had begun a school garden for the students. The garden allows my children to eat well at school. Every day, a meal is provided for them.

I was interested and decided to volunteer my time in the garden with other parents. I maintain the garden even when the school is closed. School leaders have given me vegetables so that my children can eat well at home too. This has improved their health. The school also allowed me to sell the surplus products of the garden crops during the holiday period.

I’ve been supported by the school feeding and school gardens projects. Thank you, Samaritan’s Purse. May God bless you.
