The Jan. 24 event was the 47th annual peaceful protest of the legalization of abortion in the United States.
Samaritan’s Purse President Franklin Graham and his daughter Cissie Graham Lynch participated in the 2020 March for Life in Washington, D.C., on Jan. 24. It was the 47th time this peaceful protest has marked the tragic 1973 decision (Roe v. Wade) by the U.S. Supreme Court to legalize abortion.
“This is such an important issue for our nation,” Graham said on his official Facebook page. “Since Roe v. Wade in 1973, over 61 million babies have been killed by abortion in our nation. That’s shameful. I pray that the American people and our politicians will wake up to what abortion really is and put an end to it.”
President Donald J. Trump was on hand to address the thousands of marchers, making him the first ever sitting U.S. president to speak at the event in person. He laid out the event’s purpose clearly: “To defend the right of every child—born and unborn—to fulfill their God-given potential.”
“All of us here today understand an eternal truth,” Trump said as the crowd cheered. “Every child is a precious and sacred gift from God.”
Franklin Graham commended the President: “Mr. President, I just want to say thank you for coming down to address the March for Life. That is huge. You’re the only president to ever do that. Thank you for taking a stand for life. It’s so meaningful to each and every one of us.”
Cissie Graham Lynch, a mother of two, was moved by the potential for change she saw at the event, surrounded by throngs of people standing up for the rights of the unborn.
“What’s remarkable is it has been 47 years since Roe v. Wade, and now you have a generation rising up today to stand for life,” Cissie Graham Lynch marveled. “So many people are marching for their voices to be heard in front of the Supreme Court.
“As we’ve been marching, you hear chants and cheers, you see signs from people all over the country. We are a generation who can change the course of where we’ve been going.”
Please pray for the United States. Pray that people’s eyes will be opened to see that human life is sacred from conception to its natural end; and that we must have concern for the physical and spiritual needs of our fellowmen.
