A family in the Democratic Republic of the Congo receives nutrition help from Samaritan’s Purse
Clementine Munjagani is a young mother of five who has suffered at the hands of rebel groups in the Congo.
During the war, we left everything we had behind. We had to travel by foot with our children for more than 30 miles. On the road, the rebel militia extorted us of even the little we could carry. Finding food and water to drink was a struggle. I lost my brother, and his son was in desperate need of health care.
Intense fatigue, bad weather (unrelenting sun, rain, cold), fear, surprise, and despair were only a few of the afflictions we experienced in the crowd of displaced people moving along together. As if all this were not enough, people behind us said that rebel soldiers were plundering our goats, hens, and other valuable property and they were going to burn our homes.
Clementine now has food for her children, and she can sell extras to send the children to school.
On our return, we suffered another tragedy at the hands of the militia. They pillaged our beloved property and ruined us for the second time. It was hard to bear and believe.
I came to know Samaritan’s Purse through their trainings on how to fight malnutrition. I followed the project recommendations because my village faces this problem, and I didn’t know how to mix food types. I learned to do market gardening and diversification of nutrient sources for the health of my children. Thanks to my harvest of cabbage, eggplant, peppers, and tomatoes, my family now has assurance of food, and even a surplus, which will be sold to pay for my children’s education and other daily needs.
I greatly thank the Samaritan’s Purse staff members who make regular visits to our village. It really shows God’s great love for us and proves that He carries the problems of His children close to His heart. I’m going to share what I’ve learned with others outside the program too.
I thank God for this work because alone, we would have never been able to improve the health of our children or increase our agricultural production so much, and now it’s seen by everyone in our village.
