Our staff and volunteers are responding to help homeowners in the wake of devastating floods.
Samaritan’s Purse has deployed to southeastern Wisconsin to help distressed residents who are dealing with floods caused by historic rainfall.
A disaster relief unit—a tractor trailer stocked with supplies and equipment—and supply trailer were sent Sunday morning to Mt. Zion Christian Church in Lake Geneva to assist homeowners in Kenosha, Racine, and Walworth counties. Our site leadership team has already begun assessing the area.
LEARN MORE ABOUT VOLUNTEERING Volunteers began work Monday once the disaster relief unit arrived. They will fan out across the area and come alongside homeowners in Jesus’ Name. They will perform mud-outs, tearing out waterlogged walls and flooring and taking damaged belongings to the curb. More information is available on our volunteer network site.The Billy Graham Evangelistic Association’s Rapid Response Team Mobile Ministry Center also departed Sunday and arrived Monday.
“Please pray for homeowners affected by these floods,” said Tim Haas, manager, U.S. Disaster Relief. “Some roads are still closed, but we are out assessing damage across three counties. We look forward to ministering to families in Jesus’ Name.”
Unprecedented Damage Along Fox River
The three Wisconsin counties were deluged by a slow moving weather system late last week that dumped more than 6 to 8 inches of rain in some areas—damaging many homes, knocking out power to thousands, and closing multiple roads. Especially hit hard was Burlington, a city of about 10,500 people.
Flooding has caused major damage in southern Wisconsin.
Governor Scott Walker declared a state of emergency Thursday, and about 85 National Guard members were called up to assist residents. He assessed damage in Burlington, touring some of the flooded areas along the Fox River, which reached a record high of 16 feet. For safety reasons, bridges over the river were closed to traffic.
Burlington Police Chief Mark Anderson said the damage left by the storm was “unprecedented.”
