When Shirley Reith’s husband died of cancer, she thought life was over for her, too.

“I was just waiting for the years to pass and for me to pass as well,” she said. “I thought God was done with me.”

Life changed two years ago when God called Shirley, who is 79 years old, to get involved with Samaritan’s Purse disaster relief.

Volunteer Opportunities with Samaritan’s Purse

Shirley recently volunteered in Seneca County, New York, after heavy rainfall triggered flash floods. She was among more than 140 volunteers who served 60 homeowners in Jesus’ Name. We praise God for the three individuals who came to know Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior during this response.

Although Shirley never thought she would serve in disaster relief at her age, God has used her obedience to bless people in need and strengthen the faith of others. She said she has no plans of slowing down her ministry for the Lord.

“I would like to keep doing these responses as long as the door is open. God is never finished with us.”
