Mrs. Carolyn Wahlberg, 90 of New Britain, wife of the late Dr. Charles “Chuck” Wahlberg, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, April 15, 2025.
She was born in New Britain to Gunnard and Elsie Johnson. Carolyn graduated from Newington High School and attended Wheaton College in Illinois. After college she worked for American Airlines where she gathered many delightful stories about spontaneous “free” flights to cities across the country. She and Chuck were married in 1957. New Britain became their home where they raised two daughters. Carolyn was an active member at Bethany Covenant Church singing in the choir, volunteering on the decorating committee, teaching youth classes and participating in meal preparation at the Friendship Service Center of New Britain. She was a gifted musician on the piano and found great joy singing in beautiful harmony with her sisters. She and Chuck enjoyed traveling to interesting vacation spots.
They both loved entertaining guests at their home in New Britain and East Haddam lake house. Family was most important to Carolyn. She loved nothing more than inviting all to enjoy a day of sunshine, boating, swimming and simply embracing family time. Afternoons weren’t complete without making way to the dining room table to partake from a huge spread of delicious food.
Surviving Carolyn are her two daughters, Louise Kelly of Middletown and Diane Wahlberg of Middletown; three grandchildren, Brian Kelly, Caitlin Kelly Moses, and Kevin Moses (grandson-in-law), all of whom she adored; her sister, Norma Peterson (Arthur, predeceased); many beloved nieces, nephews, cousins, and kin. Carolyn is preceded in death by sister Louise Harlow (husband, Stephan). Carolyn had an unwavering faith in her savior Jesus Christ and in the promise of an eternal home. We are assured that she has been welcomed into God’s heavenly kingdom by those who have departed before her.
