Dennis Victor Koch, a loving, devoted husband, Dad, Grandpa, and Poppa, was called home to be with the Lord on December 28, 2024, at 81 years old.
Born September 12, 1943, and raised in Eldridge, Iowa, he met the love of his life, Lana Sue, while at summer camp as a teenager. He believed that even though they were a couple of kids in a summer romance, God's hand brought them together. Five years later, they were married on August 29, 1964. Two years later, they welcomed their first daughter, Lisa, and then in 1968, their second daughter, Tracy, was born.
Denny graduated from State College of Iowa with a Bachelor of Arts, and the University of Iowa with a Master of Arts and spent 34 years teaching math and computer science with the Davenport Community School District (DCSD). When the opportunity arose to retire early from DCSD, he took it to move to Texas to be close to his kids and grandkids. He finished his career teaching another 10 years with the Mesquite Independent School District before retiring in 2009.
Denny was an avid Iowa Hawkeyes fan. He was a football season ticket holder for over 20 years, and even after moving to Texas never missed a game, faithfully flying the black and gold on game days. When he wasn't watching the Hawks, you could find him in the backyard tending to his plants. But most importantly, Denny loved spending time with his family. He was so proud of his daughters and their families and never missed any of their events or activities. His witty, pun-filled humor created some of his family's favorite memories.
In 1973, Denny recognized his need for a Savior and put his faith and trust in Jesus Christ. It was a decision he never regretted, and one that set the course for the rest of his life. He loved the Lord and faithfully served Him as a deacon, directing choirs, teaching Sunday school, and doing community outreach. He prayed daily for his family, friends, church, missionaries, and government leaders. Denny never knew a stranger, and as he interacted with people daily, whether in a grocery store, restaurant, or with hospital staff in his last days, it was forefront on his mind to share the Gospel with them.
Denny was preceded in death by his father, Victor Koch; mother, Hazel (Wiese) Koch McDaniel; stepfather, Charles McDaniel; brother, Larry Koch; and great-grandbaby, Joy.
He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Lana; brothers, Tom Koch and Mike (Debbie) McDaniell; children, Lisa and Tony Evans and Tracy and Jeff Barns; grandchildren, Megan (Evans) and Walter Ortega, Jordyn (Barns) and Derek Bock, Elise (Evans) and Dominic Visingardi, and Landen Barns. He was also blessed with five great-grandchildren.
