In Memory Of
Sherrill Morgan - Highlands Ranch, CO

Sherrill Novotny Morgan of Highlands Ranch, Colorado, was the daughter of Ladislav Otto and Gladys Webert Novotny. Born in Marshalltown, Iowa, on October 14, 1936, she spent her early childhood in Marshalltown until the family’s move to Colorado Springs, Colorado in 1941.

Sherrill went to Colorado Springs High School and graduated in 1954. She enrolled at the University of Denver and earned a BSBA in marketing, with a minor in art. She was a member of Kappa Delta Sorority.

Throughout high school and college, Sherrill dated her future husband, Clarold (“Clair”) Morgan. They were married on April 6, 1958, and Clarold soon joined the United States Army. The newlyweds were initially stationed in Ft. Sill, Oklahoma, for Clarold’s officer basic training, and later moved to Ft. Carson, Colorado. Shortly after military service, Sherrill and Clarold moved to Boulder, and then to Colorado Springs, Colorado, in 1968, where they remained, raised their family, and participated in the community until 1988. They then moved to Cherry Hills Village, Colorado, to be closer to their children, and stayed in the Denver Metro area.

Sherrill was active in the community and devoted significant time to her children’s schools and was an active member and president of the PTO. Her community involvement extended to support of various charitable organizations, including her long-term involvement with the Assistance League. Professionally, Sherrill obtained her teaching certificate and worked as a substitute teacher.

She loved and appreciated art, was fond of travel, had a flair for interior design, and enjoyed designing and making costumes and clothing for her family. Sherrill loved her friends, and opened her heart and home to entertain them in grand style. Above all, she was known for her grace and kindness. Sherrill sought the positive qualities of others, and never failed to offer her support and reassurance with her beautiful smile. Her greatest love was for her husband, Clair, for his faithful kindness and the mutual support they found in each other over 63 years of marriage. She cherished her children and was a devoted mother. She considers her children the “Academy Awards” of her life.

Sherrill is survived by her daughter, Lynn Cahen (Craig); son, Forrest Morgan (Melanie); and daughter, Marcia Vandenberg (Edward); by her six grandchildren, Corinne Ekle (Bryson), Andrew Morgan (Natalie), Courtney Menking (Steven), Ryan Morgan (Madison), Amanda Seale, and Connor Seale; and by her five great-grandchildren, Ellary Ekle, Beckett Ekle, Ava Menking, Seth Menking, and Evelyn Morgan.

She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, and her sister, Phyllis.
