Walter J. Thomas Jr., 84, passed away on Tuesday, Feb. 23, 2021, at the Pottstown Hospital. He was the son of the late Walter and Mildred (Sheppard) Thomas Sr.
Walter was a loving husband to his wife Wilda (Franzke) Thomas for 65 years. He was a veteran of the United States Air Force. Walt loved spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Walt was active in the church, enjoyed reading, and was an avid fisherman. He was featured by the fish and game commission for catching an award-winning muskellunge.
The time he spent teaching his son and grandsons how to fish and fly fish always brought joy to him. He was always there for his family. Whether it was tossing around the baseball, picking out a first car, going for the driving test, being at our side in a hospital, lending a shoulder to lean on, chatting about how bad the Phillies division is, or simply showing up at sporting events, we could always count on our dad and grandfather.
Along with Walter’s loving wife Wilda, he is survived by son Douglas Thomas and wife Tammy; daughter Diane (Thomas) Althouse and husband Robert; two brothers: Brian and James Thomas; sister Sallie Collier; four grandchildren: Bryan Spieth, Brittany Thomas, Michael Spieth, and Daniel Thomas; and six great-grandchildren: Zachary Spieth, Alexa Spieth, Bryanna Spieth, Hailey Spieth, Octavia Spieth, and Leila Spieth.
Walter is predeceased by brother Donald Thomas and son-in-law Arthur Spieth.
Warker-Troutman Funeral Home is honored to serve the Thomas family.
