Yvonne “Vonnie” Louise Parsoneault McCown of Philadelphia, Mississippi, beloved wife of the late Homer “Mac” McCown, devoted mother of six, and cherished friend of many, passed away peacefully in her home on January 5, 2025, surrounded by her daughters, leaving behind a legacy of love, service, and unwavering faith.
Born in California, and later transplanted to Mississippi, Vonnie was a woman of hospitality, opening her home to Wycliffe missionaries, and hosting numerous bible studies and other ladies’ gatherings. She was known for her talent as a cook and party planner, skillfully creating unforgettable celebrations for her family and friends. Vonnie served ten years as the Operation Christmas Child County Coordinator, and shared her creative talents in teaching hands-on beautiful projects for Christian Women’s Job Corp.
Her family was important to her, and she instilled in her children the importance of faith in God. She also selflessly encouraged the development of their talents. She was inventive, resourceful, and spontaneous, and always kept her family busy. Vonnie was a member of First Presbyterian Church, where she used her talents to cook, teach, and organize activities. She also sang in the choir and wrote numerous programs. Her devotion to God was reflected in every aspect of her life, and her enthusiastic service was a testament to her remarkable character which touched countless lives.
Vonnie will be lovingly remembered by her children, Colin McCown (Kim), Bevin Bush (Stephen), Deanne McCown, Sharon McCown, Jay McCown (Kristi), and Joel McCown (Ginny); grandchildren, Erin, Will, Ben, Celina, Bethany, Duncan, Leo, Hillary, Harley, Caleb, Josh, Lily, Isaac, Rose, Leia, and Mia; and great-grandchildren, Waverly and Willow. She also is survived by brothers, Jerry, Dan, and Mark Parsoneault.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 47 years, Homer “Mac” Horace McCown; as well as her parents, Eleanor and Frank Parsoneault; and infant sister, Patricia.
A memorial service for Vonnie will be held at First Presbyterian Church on January 18, 2025, at 11:00 a.m.
