Zeffie Ray Brogan, age 76 of Campton, Kentucky, formerly of Huntington and Logan, West Virginia, entered peacefully into the Lord's rest in Jackson, Kentucky, with his daughter by his side on October 15, 2023.
Born April 28, 1947, to the late Posey N. and Ruby (Moore) Brogan at their home in Shamrock, Zeffie was the namesake of his maternal grandfather. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, John N. Brogan; wife, Sharon (Davis) Brogan; brother, Posey H. Brogan; daughter, Sherry Pesola; and son-in-law, Chris Carrere, with whom he made his home for seven years.
A 1965 graduate of Logan High School and a US Army Veteran, Zeffie spent his early years working at his family's Gulf Service Station at Shamrock and then as a diesel mechanic for Mcclean Trucking Company. He retired from Westmoreland Coal Company where he was employed as a certified electrician and welder.
Zeffie was a born again believer who placed his faith in Jesus Christ and confessed Him as Lord and Savior and was buried with Him in believer's baptism. He was a member of the Central United Baptist Church on Holden Road.
As an outdoorsman, he enjoyed hunting, gardening, harvesting ginseng, camping, fishing, boating, and frog gigging. But being at home with and serving his family was what he loved doing most.
Zeffie will be remembered as a hard-working family man with a humble and generous spirit; a pure and selfless heart; and an easy-going, endearing and humorous personality.
Those left to cherish his memory include his daughter and son-in-law, Alecia (Lisa) and James M. Judd, with whom he made his home in Campton; grandson, Johnathan Hubert of Huntington, West Virginia; sister, Betty Flint of Bluefield, West Virginia; aunt, Lassa Hughes of Cave Creek, Arizona; sister-in-law, Mary Leigh Sparks of Hamlin, West Virginia; in-laws, Rebecca Shaul, who blessed him by lovingly assisting with providing his care at home, James D.
