Samaritan’s Purse is working in communities near Monrovia, Liberia, where mothers like Tutu rise each morning longing to give their children a future filled with hope in place of uncertainty.
In the world’s poorest areas, survival is often a daily struggle of hunger and instability.
Through our livelihoods program in Tutu’s village, the loving mother of three has learned how to grow cassava, lettuce, and other crops. Today, she’s able to feed her children and sell the abundance to pay for school fees, clothing, and a roof over their heads.
“We had nothing. The children would be crying from hunger. Then God brought Samaritan's Purse to me," she said.
Many Liberians in our livelihood program are tending successful businesses and sharing their new-found hope with family and neighbors. As they learn skills in farming, livestock, tailoring, and other trades, our teams also teach them from God’s Word.
"We plant the seeds, water them, tend to them—and God makes them grow,” Tutu said. “It started small, but it helped us feed the children and I've learned to trust God.”
“I came that they may have life and have it abundantly.” (John 10:10, ESV).
