World Medical Mission, the medical arm of Samaritan’s Purse, sends hundreds of doctors every year to 66 remote hospitals and clinics around the world. In addition to deploying doctors, dentists, and other medical professionals as volunteers, World Medical Mission serves as a lifeline to dozens of mission hospitals by providing millions of dollars’ worth of critically needed equipment and supplies. In 2017, Samaritan’s Purse sent more than 185 tons of needed supplies to facilities in 19 countries.

SHORT-TERM VOLUNTEERS:

  • Los voluntarios a corto plazo sirven de dos semanas a un año en cualquiera de los remotos hospitales necesitados.
  • Volunteers are self-funded and raise financial support to cover the cost of their trips. World Medical Mission assists with all logistical aspects of the trips, including flights, visas, medical licenses, in-country travel, and lodging.
  • Physicians, physician assistants, audiologists, surgeons, occupational therapists, optometrists, anesthesiologists, nurses, dentists, and other medical professionals are all needed as short-term volunteers.
  • World Medical Mission places volunteers at hospitals and clinics in Africa, Asia, Oceania, Latin America, and the Middle East.
  • After they complete the application process and are accepted to the program, World Medical Mission volunteers choose from among a list of hospitals in need of their skillsets.
  • Since 1975, physicians have volunteered on some 10,000 occasions with World Medical Mission. Last year, 878 medical professionals served in 37 different countries.

POST-RESIDENTS:

  • World Medical Mission’s Post-Residency Program is a fully funded, two-year program for Christian physicians and their families who desire to do medical missions.
  • Since 2004, World Medical Mission has placed 173 post-residents in hospitals around the globe. More than 78 percent of these doctors chose to remain in the mission field long-term. In 2017, 14 post-residents began the two-year program.
